Shipyard

This page lists the ship classes that are available to be constructed from which you may pick one.

Each ship has a selection of the following attributes:

  • Size
    • There are 4 ship size tiers, representing quite how large the ship is. The larger the ship, the less generally manoeuvrable it is. This will also impact on how many ships can fit into a hanger - or if it will even fit at all!
  • FTL Spool Time
    • This is the length of time it takes the FTL Jump Drive on the ship to spin up and execute an FTL Jump to another system. Equal time is required to cool down again after the jump. (See Space Travel)
  • Maximum Population
    • The maximum population size that the stock life support systems on the ship can comfortably support.
  • Favoured System
    • This system is enhanced by the design of the ship class and consequently gives you 1 free point in this system.
  • Penalty System
    • This system is impaired by the design of the ship class (usually due to a bonus elsewhere) and consequently limits you to putting only 1 point into this system.
  • Bonus Equipment
    • This ship class comes with this additional piece of Equipment completely free.

The International Space Station proved the value of an orbiting research centre, but with the invention of the Black Box FTL Drive, researchers began opting for smaller, less spacious vessels in exchange for freedom to not be anchored in orbit around any one planet. The Alchemist Station changes the whole game: no longer does your research team need to be testing samples in cramped, ill-designed compartments – this research station is fully mobile and can perform jumps between systems like any other ship.
